Making purses and a giveaway!

Hello everyone! How are you doing? I made a purse today - it was so much fun (although it took far too long courtesey of optician appointments, prepping for a Little Persons party on Saturday and parent-teacher catch-ups, but more on that another time!!!)

The lovely people at Trixie Lixie very kindly sent me a clasp purse kit to try out - it includes everything needed to make a purse (aside from your thread) and the kit I received included a yummy piece of AMH Field Study laminate. Result!

There are only a few pieces to cut out and the instructions are easy enough to follow. I did a couple of things differently mostly due to the laminate fabric: no pins were used in the making of this purse (!) as I didn't want to mark the fabric and I increased the length of the stitches when sewing the laminate sections together so as to not perforate the fabric too much. I also zig-zagged around the lining and used fray-stop on the gap to stabilise the edges as the lining fabric had a tendancy to fray and I didn't want to be losing any coins through a hole!!!!

A bit of embroidery floss to sew the purse into the frame and I was all done. Now, this is the first time I've used a sew-in clasp and it was a bit of a faff to start with - the hardest thing was trying to get the needle through the hole from the reverse side!!!! I found that having a finger directly behind the hole helped me to guide the needle but if you have any other tips for me I'd love to hear them! It's a lovely little project, only taking an hour or two all told. It's a really good sized purse, big enough that I'm wondering if it would be an ideal little travel pouch for my sewing notions......I reckon I could easily fit a small pair of scissors and a reel or two of thread in there......!!!!!

So, if you would like to try out a kit for yourself - and with Mother's Day in mind - Trixie Lixie are offering a 15% discount on any of their purse clasp or scarf kits using the code MUMSUNDAY30 (valid until the 4th April).

There is also a purse kit giveaway! One lucky person will be chosen by Mr Random Number Generator on Wednesday 26th March - all you need to do is to have a look around the Trixie Lixie website and leave a comment letting me know what you would like to be given as a present - there's lots to chose from with fabrics, patterns and kits!
